April Thoughts for the Day

April 30, 2018

Thought for the Day

Today's thought is offered
in the form of a question.

There is something I have been
reflecting on quite a bit of late
and so I offer the same question
to you. After your consideration,
I would love to hear
what you have to share.

Do you think that Jesus hung on the cross
with his hands and feet nailed to it
and looked down at the ones
who had hung him there
gambling for his clothes, the same ones
who had also stripped him
and beaten him, and placed
a crown of thorns upon his head---
and then as he gazed outward upon the crowd
and saw the scribes and Pharisees
who had orchestrated this whole thing,
as they stood there jeering at him, mocking him,
stirring the crowd up with their heckling,
do you think that it was because he was so perfect,
that he could feel nothing other than
love and compassion, sorrow and forgiveness?

Was it this very perfection
that inspired him so much that he said,
"Father, forgive them
for they know not what they do?"

Or is it possible that,
as he hung there and saw all that he saw,
he realized that what he was a part of
was so vast, that there was room in him
to allow those who had treated him
unfairly into his heart exactly as they were,
and there was room in his heart
for him to allow feelings of betrayal,
disappointment, abandonment,
pity for himself, pity for them,
and after allowing the totality
of this experience in and embracing it fully
that he paused and thought, despite
all of this, Father....despite all of this...
"none-the-less dear Father,
please forgive them
for they know not what they do?"

What is it that makes us fully human
and fully Divine?

At what point do we become
a complete human being?

Prayer for the Day

There is such perfect rest
in allowing all of life
to be as it is.

To have laid the weapons
of battle and judgment aside
and to have made peace
with life, to have made peace
with yourself, to welcome all,
even the hecklers and the righteous,
and say, "May it only
and always be done unto me
according to Thy Will."

I can do nothing of myself.

You alone are life, this life,
all life, the very one appearing
as many.

This heart is forever thine.

Thought for the Day

Sunday is practice day.

Belief #7

I must somehow free myself
of all that is negative or painful
in my life (inside and out)
if I am ever going to know
true freedom or lasting peace.

There is quite a lot to be shared
in order to set up today's practice.

Thus I begin with another story
from this character's life.

It happened
when I was in my late twenties.

Once again, I found myself
in fisticuffs with my father.

I would have to say that this
was the most prevailing attribute
of my relationship with him: that we
were always at loggerheads
with one another over something.

What we were arguing about
is not only not important,
but unremembered at this point.

What stayed in the memory, however,
was how it ended.

The final thing he said was,
"I no longer grant you beingness.
You no longer exist to me.
You were never born
and you are not my child."

And with that statement
we did not speak again with one another
for over fifteen years.

I lived my life and he lived his.

Holding a grudge is ruinous
to peace of mind.

We each were angry, hurt, disappointed,
filled with rancor and ill-will
toward one another
and righteous about it.

And the reason why I have shared
this incident was to illuminate
what we, as human beings,
and especially spiritual seekers do.

We tell our thoughts and feelings,
"I no longer grant you beingness.
You no longer exist to me.
Get out and be gone.
Leave me now!"

And we actually believe that
true freedom and peace
are all about ridding ourselves
of them permanently.

So today's practice
is designed as a response
to the Jeff Foster video clip
that I posted yesterday.

Imagine that every thought
and every feeling that arises today
is a little child standing in the doorway
of your infinite presence.

What you have tried to do
in the past, is to slam the door
in that child's face.

And when that did not work,
when the pain body got activated,
you engaged in battle with the poor thing
and the war for dominion

What if it were really true
that all that thought or feeling
was truly saying was,
"Do I have a right to be here?
Is there space for me?
Will you not seek to destroy me,
cast me out, be free of me,
but rather, invite me in
and allow me to enter your embrace?"

What if what you actually are
on the deepest level
is the space that allows everything to be
with a loving and boundlessly
compassionate heart
exactly as it is, and wouldn't have it
any other way?

All I have ever managed
to figure out thus far
is that having a calling
is not about figuring out
what you special mission in this life
happens to be.

It's more like refining the ability
to hear what is calling
in the heart of every living being
including ourselves
and deeply and profoundly loving that.

So that's your mission today,
loving what is.

Just how big is your loving?

Prayer for the Day

Let there be no edges to my loving.

Thought for the Day

Belief #6

"One's experience and one's interpretation
of their experience are the same thing."

This is undoubtedly the greatest form
self-deception takes of all.

When I was in the ninth grade,
I had one of the most powerful spiritual lessons
of my life and it quite literally changed
how I have seen everything
from that moment on.

We were all a bunch of hormonal teens,
barely able to chew gum and walk
at the same time, yet convinced
we already knew it all.

Cocky, incorrigible, and most definitely
difficult to corral.

The teacher called on me
to read John 3:16 and then asked me
to explain the verse,
which I promptly did.

After my commentary was completed,
he quietly spoke.

"That is not what I asked,
what does it mean?"

I took another stab at it.

After a fairly lengthy oration
on my part with which I felt
more than a little satisfaction
about how right I had gotten it
and what a good job I had done,
he gently spoke again.

"That is not what I asked,
what does it mean?"

Third times a charm.

Despite the fact that our teacher
had a PhD in clinical psych
from Purdue University
and chaired his department, I spoke
with words that were unmistakably
terse and condescending,
as only a teenager can do.

Each word carefully chosen
carried an unmistakable
staccato and crescendo---
as if he were a third grader who was
wasting my time.

Smiling after my glorious summation,
I sat down. Moments of silence past.

And you guessed it.

He spoke with such quiet authority.

"That is not what I asked,
what does it mean?"

Now I spoke.

"Then I don't know what it means.
You tell me!"

Quietly the man read the verse:

"For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten son,
that whosoever should believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life."

He then sat down.

The room was so quiet you could hear
a pin drop.

Outraged, I said, "That's not what it means,
that is what it says!"

To which he replied, "What it says
is what it means, everything else
you had to share was your story."

A two-by-four upside the head
could not have delivered
such an unexpected blow.

I began to understand
so much about suffering on that
fateful Sunday.

Everything is truly neutral,
virginal, until the mind
puts its spin on things.

And if we believe the mind,
we suffer. But only
100% of the time....

Be willing to look at this honestly
today. We all waste so much time
and energy making ourselves miserable
and spreading that misery to the world
around us; polluting our environment
with our bullshit and sending
the most fear-based, unfair & unkind
vibrations hurtling through space.

And then, if that were not enough,
we blame the world
for what we alone have done
to ourselves.

Watch yourself today.

Try to see life as it is
without adding a single thing
to what you see.

And spread a little shunshine
to your heart and every heart
you see.

Prayer for the Day

Let me see what life is
without me impregnating it
with my meanings and interpretations.

What's not to LOVE
if I keep my grubby mitts
off of it?

Thought for the Day

Belief #5

"What others say or do,
what I experience,
or what happens in this world
can be so off the mark, so wrong,
that it deeply effects or changes
my inner experience of life."

More bologna.

Remember when we said this?

"Oh, honey, you have nothing else
in this life other than
your experience.

Always always always
there is only your experience,
and your experience
is something that is transpiring
inside of you, not outside!

And when you at long last learn
to deeply accept your inner experience,
whatever it is, with open arms
and a loving heart
as a mother does her only child,
you will finally understand
and you too will be wise."

And this?

"You must begin to see
that how you see your mind
determines the meanings
that you give to everything---
and this determines
whether you experience threat or peace
and inevitably dictates all responses."

You are always reacting to your

No one is responsible for your experience
other than you.

And if your experience
of your interpretation is anything
other than love,
then it is the ego which is doing
the looking.

What is really in question
is not what seems to be happening,
but the obvious case of mistaken identity.

And because it is ego
who is looking, the interpretation
is not about the now, but is based on
memory and anticipation,
or past and future.

The Living Now
is only the experience of LOVE.

The Living Now
is only the experience of PEACE.

The Living Now
unveils the treasures of GOD
in the midst of all that is
precisely as it is.

Prayer for the Day

There is one culprit
that pollutes all experience---
this false sense of a separate me
and a separate you.

There is only One Life,
One Source, living as all.

Remember, oh heart!

There is only ever always That,
not two, but one.

Thought for the Day

Belief #4

I can find the happiness and peace,
success, fulfillment & recognition
I lack and ache for so desperately
if only I try harder.

You got it. Another steaming pile
of you-know-what.

Rich man, poor man, beggar man, thief,
we are all searching for the answer
to the eternal question of,
"Who am I?"

Because somehow we know that when
we answer that question,
we will find the completion
we have been looking for
all of our lives.

And the world is such a set up.

We set out on our quest
for more, for better and different,
thinking "this time it will work,"
only to find that it isn't more,
it isn't better, it isn't different,
and, disappointment of disappointments,
it most definitely did not work.

You get it. You still feel terrible,
so you are off again.
On to the next thing, and the next
and then the next.

Oh, things can change a lot on the outside,
this constant rearranging of the people,
places and things on the stage of our lives,
but on the inside, that hole
keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Let's face it, you were born a seeker.

But, my beloved child,
this desperate search of yours
has not been in vain.

Because now you are keenly aware
of suffering.

Oh, my God, when you slow down enough
and are honest enough with yourself
you real eyes that you feel
so damn much suffering...

And somehow somewhere
deep inside you know,
that suffering is not what you
are really all about.

When suffering hits a fevered pitch,
the certainty arises that
what you are looking for
cannot be found in the world you see
outside yourself.

And you instinctively know that
it cannot be found in the mind either.

No amount of therapy,
self-help books, gurus, teachers
and teachings , degrees or credintials
behind your name have been able
to make a dent in that hole.

And the body?

You've gone vegan and alkaline,
drank water, exercised your brains out,
tried this potion and that potion,
lifted this or that, had botox
and collegen fillers
and still feel the unsatisfactoriness
that whispers naggingly in your ear,
"this isn't it either."

No matter what you have tried,
no matter where you have looked,
it has not worked.

Oh my, look at what you have chased
in this life and none of it
has brought you the deep peace
and rich contentment
that soothed your aching heart
and ended this pointless game you play.

Suffering never really seems
to go away.

Mean while you bobble back and forth,
to and fro between relationships,
jobs, health issues, finances,
relationships, jobs, health issues
and finances ad nauseum.

But what if....what if...
what if it were possible to awaken
from the nightmare of suffering

What if the answer you were looking for
was inside, rather than outside?

What if happiness and wholeness
and peace of mind
were simply waiting for you to give up
every attempt to acquire it outside
so that they could catch up with you
so that you would know... you would know...
"I am that which I seek?"

Quote for the Day

Who looks outside, dreams;
who looks inside, awakes.

Carl Jung

Prayer for the Day

Oh Light of lights!

Rid me of this sense
of suffering, of this impostor
who poses as me!

May I be nought but
that light which streams forth
from Thy eternal being
from henceforth and forever more.

Thought for the Day

Belief #3

Being right and being happy
are the same thing.

More bologna.

Most believe that it is a good thing
to fight for what you believe in,
that it is noble to take a stand
and defend your particular point of view,
that there is a certain 'rightness' about it,
and that proving you are right
will, indeed, lead to happiness.

But being right and being happy
are never the same thing.

And the loss of inner decorum
is always caused by reacting
to your own mental constructs;
the meanings which you, and you alone,
have given to everything,
never to what is.

And more than this,
it never has anything to do with
the Living Now.

It is always about what is either
remembered or anticipated.

Stop fighting with yourself.

Stop fighting with Life.

There is no power other than you
which can free you
from the battle you have going
on in your head.

And this is a crucial point
to get, for those who struggle
with relinquishing their identification
with the inner narrative do so because
(a) they have given reality to the meanings
they have bequeathed to their experience and
(b) they have mistaken being right
for the source of happiness.

Words fail to describe
the boundlessness of the peace
which is yours when you give yourself
permission to walk away
from the mind, allowing awareness
to come up for air and breathe again
the immaculate sunlight of the spirit.

Prayer for the Day

Dear John letter to the mind:

We're breaking up.

Awareness, rise
and breathe again the infinite peace
of freedom.

Soul bird, fly! Fly free!

Thought for the Day

Belief #2

"I have to somehow learn
to silence the mind and rid myself
of the constant inner narrative,
especially those thoughts
which are anything but spiritual,
which includes all the negative feelings
I have every single day
before I can attain
a state of enlightenment."

You need but stop engaging,
to overlook it, allowing it to be what it will be
without your interference.

Peace arises in your awareness
when you stop impregnating the mind
with an imagined "i"
by ruthlessly and relentlessly identifying
with thoughts and thinking---
becoming mesmerized, stupefied and identified.

No belief is ever true
regardless how much you may believe it.

Engaging with thoughts
does not work.

Waging war with thoughts
does not work.

And actions based on their input
only serve to reinforce the mask
or impostor self.

But a warm and loving presence
which deeply accepts all of life
exactly as it is
will never fail to awaken compassion
and the awareness of peace.

Everything, absolutely everything,
is a child of your awareness.

What parent elects to drown their children
in the bath tub
simply because they do not approve
of what they are sharing and therefore wish
to silence them permanently?

Prayer for the Day

Laying my weapons down.

The battle is over.

I have been so violent
toward myself.

Come here, my beloved.

Hear my vow:

I will never betray myself
by betraying you
ever again.

Thought for the Day

This week we look carefully
at some of the core beliefs you cherish
that keep you locked into
the dualistic perspective
of the impostor self masquerading
its way through this life as you.

Although these beliefs are entirely false,
you deeply believe them to be true
and cling tenaciously to them.

Unless their validity is called into question
and you take the time to look at each carefully,
that you too might begin to challenge
these self-limiting beliefs,
you cannot garner the necessary momentum
for the throwing action
which separates awareness
from its identification with the thinking mind
and its belief system.

Belief #1

The mind is dependable
and a reliable source of truth.

You may believe that it is the mind
which has gotten you thus far
in this life, but it can take you no further.

The mind is not a reliable source
of anything.

What exists in the mind is never reality
but only imagination.

Be willing to draw a line in the sand
and say. "No more."

"I refuse to be hostage
of the mind any longer."

Truth is not found in either the mind,
the body or this world.

When you stop looking to them for answers,
you take your first real step
on the path of freedom.

Prayer for the Day

I will no longer play hostage
to the ego or thinking mind,
but rather, host to God.

Thought for the Day

Sunday is practice day.

Today's practice sounds simple
but isn't easy if taken seriously.

Through the faculty of discrimination
you are asked to observe carefully
the difference between
what is painful and what is joyful.

Sounds simple enough,
but isn't for most.

The reason that this is more difficult
than it seems is because
what is the cause of happiness for you
most generally doss not make
the ego a happy camper at all.

And as long as you remain identified with the ego,
you will mistake misery for happiness.

What makes you happy weakens the ego,
which is the source of the madness
behind the belief in lack and sacrifice.

So when you notice that the ego
is reacting strongly,
regardless of whether it's interpretation
is that of right or wrong,
happy or unhappy,
favorable or unfavorable,
and it exerts effort in order to
control or manipulate outcomes
in a way which it perceives as being
in its favor, simply fall back,
relax deeply, allow and trust.

Life is guiding life,
and is doing so perfectly.

Life has got this, and does not need
the ego's input or interference.

Look at the word, "interference."

enter + fear

ence = added to the end of adjectives
to form nouns to describe states or behaviors.

Remember, the ego's wishes
are meaningless.

Prayer for the Day

I step back
and allow the light
to lead the way.

Life is living life...

Thought for the Day

On two consecutive days this week
we emphasized the following:

"Your state of mind
and your recognition of what is in the mind
at any given moment
depends on what you are believing
about the mind."

Let's really hone in on this idea
and see if we can bring
more clarity and light to our seeing,
for our goal is that of freedom
and the boundless fields of peace.

What you accept into the mind
is determined
by what you believe about the mind.

Whom do you serve?

My darlings, you are only and aways
but a servant, but is it a dream
that you serve or the Giver of Life?

You must begin to see
that how you see your mind
determines the meanings
that you give to everything---
and this determines
whether you experience threat or peace
and inevitably dictates all responses.

The difference between
how you see something
and how it truly is can be quite vast.

Yet how you see the mind
will determine what arises in it
and what arises in it
determines your repsonse.

Will that be real or true?

But one thing is certain.

Your believing it
will make it true to you,
but just because this is how you see it,
does not mean that this is
how it truly is.

But it does explain quite succinctly
the collective madness
that pervades our world
as people clash and wage war
with one another
over belief systems
and the pretense of being right.

Prayer for the Day

Do I try to stop thoughts
and engage in the bitter & vicious cycle
of waging war with myself?

Or do I see that
what I believe about my mind
determines how the mind
is experienced?

What if I begin by relaxing
and looking at the core belief
of whether I choose to serve the truth
or defend the pretense of the imagined self
and its belief system?

I think the answer is really
rather simple actually
when I remember that
the goal is freedom
and unshakable peace.

May I ever be aware that I am
inseparably yoked with the Giver of life
through Whom I live and have my being.

April 20, 2018

Thought for the Day

We begin today with three definitions.

everything: something which is total; ALL.

nothing: no thing, not anything, no part,
share, or trace.

eternal: without beginning or end,
lasting forever, always existing,

The concepts of everything and nothing,
of truth and illusion,
self and no-self seem to be opposites.

And most who say that there is truth---
a vast no thing, an Absolute,
immutable, stainless Reality,
will quite readily speak
of all phenomena as illusion.

Yet illusion is still tacitly given
reality too; for they believe
the report of the body's sense organs
and react to that perceptual experience,
interacting as though it is very real
and that the character
of the personal self or experiencer
who gives meaning and interpretation
to all experience is real as well.

But the nitty-gritty is that
if there is truth, it is all-encompassing;
which means that it is changeless
and can have no opposite.

The reason that illusion is nothing,
is because TRUTH is EVERYTHING
and EVERYTHING leaves room
for nothing else.

This may thus be summed up
as follows:

The only way out of an illusion
is to recognize that
you were never in it in the first place.

Where is this apparent world without
the imagined character
of i, me, my & mine?

Prayer for the Day

Only God.

April 19, 2018

Thought for the Day

In yesterday’s thought we postulated
that to understand the message
might take time and quiet reflection
to comprehend and accept.

Do not mistake this to mean
that the message was either
difficult or complex,
for it was not.

The simpler and clearer something is,
particularly if it completely undermines
the structural underpinnings of ego,
the more likely it will seem difficult
to grasp and you will meet
with heavy resistance.

This seeming difficulty
is a mask with many faces:
anger, passive-aggressiveness,
self-righteous denial, smug superiority,
avoidance, fear, and grogginess
that tricks you into believing that
you are incapable of getting
so simple a message
are but a few.

All defense mechanisms
are fences you build around yourself
to protect and perpetuate the myth of ‘me.’

Unless you see what is happening clearly
and turn instantly ---
redirecting the lens of awareness
toward the truth, the experience
of suffering will be inescapable.

Thus we look today
at the defense mechanism of denial.

To the mask, the imagined sense
of personal personhood
the word denial means,
“Don’t even notice I am lying.”

But to that which is forever true,
the word denial means,
“Deem everything now is always light.”

The denial of error
is the only proper use of denial.

For nothing born of illusion
has any power to affect you
in any way whatsoever.

The is the most fundamental
and immutable law of Clear Seeing.

Prayer for the Day

Precious world!

Come! Let us enter together
as one
into the Beloved's Embrace!

We rest in the sanctity of truth.

We rest in peace sublime!

We rest in God!

Thought for the Day

Today's thought is one of the simplest
and most concise statements
which may be made about the mind:

Your state of mind
and your recognition of what is in the mind
at any given moment
depends on what you are believing
about your mind.

Whenever you are feeling distress
or less than, stop.

Yes. It is important, vital even, to turn
and offer love to what awareness
is aware of.

But don't stop there. Look further.

Be willing to ask yourself,
"What am I believing?"

For clearly you have embraced
and believed what is not true
or peace would be in your awareness.

Prayer for the Day

I choose a conscious life.

This achy breaky heart
is sick and tired and done with
its claim that it can neither understand
nor comprehend
what is going on and why.

No more victim.

Thought for the Day

The typical human response to suffering
is to want to run away from it, deny its presence,
repress it, blame it on someone or something else,
medicate it with mind numbing agents
such as drugs, alcohol, food, gambling, sex, etc.,
or to distract yourself from the experience
with compulsive doing.

Here is spiritual axiom
you can take to the bank:

If it arises within your experience,
it has a right to be there.

Treat it as such.

It's presence is a call to inquire;
and inquiry will always reveal that
you are resisting your present experience,
and instead, are identified with an image
or self-concept.

Because of this misidentification,
something about the present experience
is judged as a threat
to this conceptual identity,
and so you are driven to escape
the perception of threat.

Never be afraid to face
any experience, for my precious,
there is no such thing as an inner experience,
which when deeply accepted and embraced,
can cause you harm.

But the urge to flee from your experience
guarantees that you will find
neither escape nor relief.

Turn into the wind of whatever arises,
my friend, and you will find that
yielding to what is is the source of great power
and always brings healing and release
in its wake.

Prayer for the Day

Resist nothing,
embrace everything.

All is welcome here.

Today I challenge myself:

How deeply can I move
into every experience I have today?

Thought for the Day

A very dear heart friend
has been caring, along with her two brothers,
for her aging mother
for the past five years since the death
of their father.

And making the decision
to care for a family member at home
rather than putting them
in a home somewhere
is not a decision which is made lightly,
as many already know.

It has so many ups and downs,
highs and lows,
and things that just make you
want to tear your hair out
by the roots.

There is one particular story
she has shared with me
over the years about her adventures
in being a care-giver that lingers
in the thoughts and heart today.

It happened on a day
when many things had already
challenged my friend and she was struggling
to hold it together and her mother,
God love her, wouldn't stop following her
around like a puppy and chattering
like a magpie.

My friend turned to her mom
and said, "Mama! Just stop!
Will you please just go to your room
for awhile and be quiet?"

And her mom instantly replied,
"What if I can't?"

At the time, and many times since,
the memory of this experience
has been a lesson for each of us who
who have lived it with her
in deep acceptance.

For we all do much to harm
and sabotage our experiences
with our expectations.

An expectation is a remeditated

Look at the word "upset."

"I set myself up."

But this is not why the "What if I can't"
lesson haunts me so today.

Every day I receive email
after email from people
explaining why they just can't get this.

The raucous rantings of the ego
are constant vexations to them
which they cannot overcome,
they cannot move past them,
they can still neither the mind
nor the body from the states
of perpetual restlessness,
agitation and compulsive activity.

In effect, they are crying out,
"What if I can't?"

And my answer is this.

Listen, my precious.

What are the reasons that
you have been telling yourself,
"What if I can't?"

Confront them today.

Because you can. You can.

There is no one who can't.

This is your destiny, your birthright.

And when you want freedom
or truth or God or Love
or whatever else you want to call it
above all else, all else,
that Voice within you
will silence all other voices
and the Everlasting Arms of the Beloved
will be there to welcome you Home.

Prayer for the Day

Hear me, oh God, please hear my cry.
Above all else I want to SEE.

Thought for the Day

Sunday is practice day.

You think that attaining a state
of unity conscious
means to reconcile and unite yourself
with a world perceived
as separate from yourself.

It does not.

True unity is an inward journey.

It means to have accepted who you are
so deeply that there
is no division between who you are
or what you are being
and that which you do.

Your life flows from within a place
of profound sincerity, authenticity
and transparency.

And strange as this may seem
to the thinking mind,
this is the infinite space of unity
with the whole of creation.

If you do not know
your own self-fullness,
you do not know your wholeness.

And if you do not know your wholeness,
you cannot know your Self
or creation.

So today we look carefully and lovingly
at all the disparaging parts
of ourselves which we have ignored,
cast aside, judged harshly,
treated without a single drop of mercy,
and welcome them back home to ourselves
as though each were the tiny infant Christ,
for all are equal parts
of the very one without a second.

And we lay bear our hearts
before the Absolute within us,
that from which we have sought escape
for so very long---
we offer freely and completely
our fragile and vulnerable being
with the earnestness of a child
running to arms which love it
deeply and unconditionally,
where it knows it is safe.

For healing that is true
does not imply that we were less,
for the one thing we cannot be
is anything other than that
which we forever are.

It simply means
that eyes which were once shut
to truth have now opened
through the redemptive grace
which flows unceasingly
from the fount of love
within the tabernacle of our hearts.

To this we give ourselves,
a silent offering, a living prayer
from everlasting to everlasting.

Prayer for the Day

Thank you for eyes which SEE.

Thought for the Day

We speak daily
about the awakened state
but not directly.

How can one tell the difference
between one who is awake
and one who is asleep?

One who is asleep responds to a world
that is based upon the meaning
he has given to his thoughts
and feelings, believing them
to be accurate and therefore
trustworthy purveyors of truthfulness.

The world to which he reacts
is perceived to be
outside of him.

He will be driven by an urge
to get others to agree
with his madness, for the ego
wants such alliances
but is fearful of true intimacy.

All he is really demonstrating
is how he has been conditioned
and that he believes his judgments.

The undeniable vibe he broadcasts
or transmits is that of suffering.

Thus, the sleeping man or woman
runs from pain and seeks to avoid it,
while one who is awake leans into
whatever arises in his life.

One who is awake
radiates a palpable sense
of joy and peace.

This does not mean
that he does not experience
the same tides and misfortunes
in life that others do,
nor that he is not familiar
with grief or sorrow.

But in his presence,
regardless of what has happened
in his life situation,
there will be an unmistakable sense
that here is one whose peace is unshakable
and love and joy and trust
are ever present companions,
ever informing the world
that here walks one
who is truly free.

Prayer for the Day

Nothing but Thee
until Thee becomes me

Thought for the Day

As this character has pondered
the thoughts from the past two days,
what is seen and witnessed
is the explanation as to why
the world appears as it does.

For as long as you can condition the masses
into believing that the cause
of their discomfort, pain,
anxiety, fear and outrage is outside
of themselves, to that same degree do you also
hoodwink them into believing
that the solution lies outside as well.

Look about you.

The "me too" campaign and "march for our lives,"
all organized religion, the latest teacher,
the best new book, a drug, a drink,
a cookie, you name it...

All of it has been a blatant attempt
to brainwash humanity into believing that
both problem and solution lie outside.

I beg you. Just for a few precious
moments, turn the world off,
forget about the to-do list,
the job, the children,
your spouse or partner.

Go into the cacophony
of madness in your inner space
and face your own suffering.

Nothing external to yourself
can liberate your soul.

It is time for you to come
with your own unfolding.

Here is where real courage
and bravery are needed.

When this becomes the one movement
we all begin to talk about
and it catches fire and takes over,
the changeless state of presence
will heal the world!

Quote for the Day

Someday, after mastering the winds,
the waves, the tides and gravity,
we shall harness for God the energies of love,
and then, for a second time
in the history of the world,
man will have discovered fire.

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

Prayer for the Day

Let the healing begin.

Thought for the Day

Within yesterday's thought
were the following words:

"Oh, honey, you have nothing else
in this life other than
your experience.

Always always always
there is only your experience,
and your experience
is something that is transpiring
inside of you, not outside!

And when you at long last learn
to deeply accept your inner experience,
whatever it is, with open arms
and a loving and wise heart
as a mother does her only child,
you will finally understand
and you too will be wise."

It is easy to run away,
get hurt, feel wounded,
be afraid, feel lack or less than, to avoid,
hold a grievance, get angry,
be defensive, contract and shut down,
etc., when you feel that
the cause of the threat you feel
exists outside of you,
but when you recognize clearly
that its source is inside,
well, my dear....that's a call to investigate.

And if you do not stop
and investigate, you must recognize
that you are no longer a victim,
you are a volunteer,
and continued suffering
is your choice.

Prayer for the Day

Instead of POTUS,
I am president of this
inner space!

Thought for the Day

Your understanding of your experience
stands absolutely no chance
of ever deepening so long as
you continue to act as if
you are engaging in all out war
with your mind.

How much....how very very much,
my precious child,
that you still do not understand.

Take heart.

Wisdom is here
and she will guide you surely
if you take her hand.

Your greatest allies
from here on out are the presence
of struggle and resistance.

They are a sign to let go.

The only thing that has happened
is that you have moved back into
a concept of who you think you are
rather than who you truly are.

Ease returns to your awareness
the very instant that
you stop struggling and resisting.

For so long, for so very very long
you have misunderstood
acceptance, thinking it could
ever have to do with experiences
outside yourself, or from the things
that transpired in something
you refer to as "the past."

Oh, honey, you have nothing else
in this life other than
your experience.

Always always always
there is only your experience,
and your experience
is something that is transpiring
inside of you, not outside!

And when you at long last learn
to deeply accept your inner experience,
whatever it is, with open arms
and a loving and wise heart,
as a mother does her only child,
you will finally understand
and you too will be wise.

This is living redemption
and nothing short of this
can be called an awakened life.

Do you have the courage,
are you big enough and brave enough
to turn and face your experience,
whatever it is, and meet it head on
with tenderness, with kindness,
with gentleness and care
exactly as it is?

Prayer for the Day

I bow before the vast and endless mystery
that is ever living and loving
life exactly as it is.... as it flows through
this focal point of awareness;
be it a raging torrent
or an endless web of stillness,
never finding edges
to its loving...and i....and i
am instrument of it's loving.

How fortunate!

April 10, 2018

Thought for the Day

Today we build on yesterday's practice
with one simple addition.

Notice the difference between
an experience and that of
the mind's perception of the experience.

What is any experience
when it is allowed to present itself
untainted and unmarred
by the mind's flagrant attempts to highjack,
manipulate and direct what's happening
through biases, interpretations,
meanings, judgments, preferences
and past conditioning?

In other words,
what is any experience
in its natural, virginal, pristine state
minus the mind's spin on it?

What would it mean
to truly see
and end the war you have going
with life as it is?

Prayer for the Day

The mind
is a meaning-making machine.

Mind, I give you a new job:

Today you can go count cars
on the freeway.

I have a life of joy to see about.

April 9, 2018

Thought for the Day

Today we scrutinize the activity of the mind
in order to clearly see
how one un-enlightens himself,
and does so with flawless consistently.

This practice could also be called
the practice of salvation.

With the first part of the practice,
pick an inanimate object.

Any will do.

It could be a sofa, a door, a flower,
a tree, a blade of grass.

Look carefully at the object
which you have picked.

Without censorship
allow thoughts to rise
about the object.

The mind may tell you
that it is beautiful or ugly,
ill-shaped or bending this way or that,
solid, dirty or clean, the wrong color,
too this or too that.

Next, answer
the following question:

Do my thoughts about _____
change it in any way?

Is it not still a _________ ?

With part two of our exercise,
observe carefully
an animal or person whom you love.

You do not have to actually
be in their physical presence
in order to accomplish this.

Reflect on all the qualities
that you love about them.

Perhaps their quirkiness
comes to mind, their loyalty,
how important they are to you,
how you could not imagine
living life without them.

Again, ask yourself:

Do my thoughts about _____
change them in any way?

Are they not still _________ ?

With part three of our exercise
we pick a person
whom we dislike, we frequently
disagree with, and oft times
go out of our way in order
to avoid.

Allow uncensored thoughts
about them to rise
to the surface.

Are they hypocritical, undependable,
do they have a standard
for themselves and another
for the world, are they irritable,
untrustworthy, do they lack appreciation,
do they judge you unfavorably?

Now, be willing to honestly
ask and answer
the questions with which
you are now quite familiar:

Do my thoughts about _____
change him/her in any way?

Is he/she not still a child of God,
a brother or sister,
and exactly as they were created,
rather than the story
I have made up about them?

The fourth and final part
of your assignment
requires you to reflect honestly
about yourself.

Lay it all out.

Your good qualities as well as
those you do not like
about yourself, the mistakes
you have made, your failures
as a human being, the things
you cannot ever seem to get past
or forgive yourself for.

Now you are ready to ask of yourself:

Do my thoughts about myself
have the power to change me
in any way whatsoever?

Are they not just thoughts?

Am I not still a child of God,
and exactly as I was created,
as changeless as is my Source,
rather than the cruel story
I have made up about myself?

Be willing to use this practice
liberally whenever
the mind is giving your trouble.

For this is the key to the door
through which you pass

Prayer for the Day

I have one mantra
to practice today:

The practice of salvation
is my only function.
God is but love
and this cannot change
what is forever true.

April 8, 2018

Thought for the Day

Sunday is practice day.

The practice which is offered today
is really quite simple.

Notice when you have become
invested in the content of the mind.

When one is invested as such,
they are identified with ego
or the mask of separation.

But the instant that you notice this,
you have stepped out of thinking,
out of identification as
the imagined self.

Once this is seen, strike a psychic match
through the faculites
of imagination and intention
and set fire to the finite self
while simultaneously opening
the mind and heart to the Infinite Self,
a living sacrament to the altar of Truth.

When the phrase
"never was so much given for so little"
is used, the spiritual ego thinks
that all the sacrifices one has to make
to awaken pale in comparison
to all one receives.

But this is not what the phrase means at all.

The separate self and its world
are nothing, while Truth
is Infinity or Everything.

So one gives up the belief that
that which is nothing is actually something
and in exchange for nothing
he receives everything.

Thus all that can be given up
was never real to anyone but you,
and the you of which I speak
is the character that you've been playing,
my darling...

The contents of the mind
cannot tell you crap, so joyfully let it go.

And the sooner you get this
and accept it deeply in recognition
that what it is pointing to is true,
the sooner you plant those precious feet
upon the road which is marked
"happy destiny."

Prayer for the Day

Here is a practice
where I cannot lose.

I offer my little practice today
in faith, knowing that
the truth will do the rest.

Thought for the Day

All beliefs are unbelievable.

No one retains a belief
which he has judged and seen
as unbelievable.

And the greatest belief of all,
the only one you need to discard,
is that of the mask
of i, me, my and mine.

The Buddha said that
a felled tree will still produce shoots
if the root system is left intact.

Pull the root of the mask,
or imagined self,
and its world goes with it.

Someone asked me yesterday,
"How can you tell the difference
between faith and belief?"

The answer is quite simple.

Look for the presence of love.

If one is truly coming
from a place of faith, their very presence
will be undeniably loving
and absolute freedom will be their only gift
ever offered from a open hand
which only gives.

But when someone is acting
in order to defend or preserve a belief,
their very presence will betray them;
being fear based and producing
exclusivity rather than inclusion.

Truth requires no defense.

Prayer for the Day

Enfolded and caressed
within the boundless wings
of grace, I walk
the gentle fields of peace.

Will you take my hand
and walk with me?

Thought for the Day

You made the mask
of i, me, my & mine by believing in it,
and you free yourself from it
by withdrawing your belief.

When you project blame onto others,
you are projecting responsiblity
for your ego onto them
which secures its identity
for you as your 'i.'

How can what the ego feels
be anyone's responsibility
but yours, my dear?

When you become willing
to accept sole responsibility
for the ego's existence,
the gig is finally up.

For how can someone else
be responsible for your errors?

The ego being merely an illusion
born of the power of your belief,
how can anything it sees
or believes mean anything?

Can fiction perceive fact?

Having at last deeply recognized
that you are responsible,
do not hold onto it.

Give it to the Source of Truth within you
to be undone in its entirety.

For what is not real, when seen through,
can have no real effects.

And mind being one, when you allow
healing to come to your mind,
healing comes to every mind
which is open to healing
and longs for freedom.

Think about this often
as you go about your day
and especially when temptation arises
to project error outside yourself.

How could you ever find the solution
to suffering outside yourself
when you are its creator
through the power of belief?

Prayer for the Day

Can you hear it?

It is the clarion call

Peace be unto every mind,
that MIND might recognize
its wholeness, having at last
come home to Itself.

Thought for the Day

There being only
the Absolute Infinite Divine Subject—-
changeless in its eternality ——
the Always which has no direction——
omnipresent, the alpha and the omega ——
all objects arising within It——
are also It.

For though the wave
may mistakenly experience itself
as independent and therefore separate,
is not the nature of wave also water,
being only Ocean in motion?

Prayer for the Day

There is but One Life,
united forever within it's Creator.

Let me bestow this message silently
as a benediction upon the world today,
and in particular, with great love,
care and tenderness upon all
I encounter or experience

Brothers and sisters everywhere---
we are limitless in power....
limitless in peace.

And may I listen for the gentle rustle

that gently enfold
with the most sacred love
every single thing that is.

Thought for the Day

Here, quite literally,
is the entirely misleading thing
about all illusions:

You cannot perpetuate
an illusion about anyone
without perpetuating it about yourself.

For while you separate life out
into subject and object
with the idea of you as subject,
believing that you can project
what you do not like outward
onto to others in the form of blame,
guilt, wrong-doing, etc.,
you fail to see three vital things:

All experiences
are experienced within you.

While you misperceive self
as subject, you fail to see
that the 'i' presumed to be you
is an object as well---
arising within the Absolute Subject,
no different from all other objects.

You cannot lose anything
that is real.

Fear is an invention which is born
of the mind's interpretations of events
in a flagrant attempt to protect
the mask of i, me, my & mine.

A very good question to ask of oneself
when upset is this:

What do I believe I stand to lose
in this particular interpretation of events
I have made of what is happening?

In the end, you will see
that it is only the attempt to protect
the self image you have securely in place
that robs you of the joy of Life.

Prayer for the Day

Let me look for the Divine Subject
that is ever living all that is.

Thought for the Day

If you feel threatened in any way,
you can be sure that
you are the one
who is not seeing clearly,
for it is the ego, or imagined self
that is doing the looking.

Nothing ever has, can or will
contradict the truth.

You cannot make the meaningless

You cannot justify the unjustifiable.

The ego and its world
are nothing.

You cannot make what is nothing
into something
and then engage with it,
debate with it, or battle it
and think that you can win.

As long as it is real or existent to you,
it cannot be transcended by you.

Prayer for the Day

All phenomena rest
in the Everlasting Arms
of the Absolute.

May all phenomena recognize
this rest this day
for only then will peace prevail on earth.

Thought for the Day

There is one reason that,
in the end, there is absolutely
no reason to get upset
about anything ever again.

And if there is upset noted,
an easy way in which to investigate
the experience of upset
or any other experience for that matter,
and with both efficacy and efficiency,
climb back out of the hole in the ground
in which you misperceive your 'i'.

The first thing that is clear
is that all you ever have is your experience.

What is arising aries within you.

They are your reactions, your judgments,
your belief system presenting itself,
your biases or positionalities,
your interpretations, your meanings,
your memories, your moral code.

You are only always ever reacting
to your experience and then blaming
what is perceived to be something outside
of yourself, something believed to be
separate from you, but which forever is
only and always experienced
within that which is you
by no other than you
for your experience.

There is no other.

Body, mind and world
are arising within your experience,
experienced within you.

Let's take this a step further.

Let's say you loathe Donald Trump
and feel he is deeply unqualified
to be the president of the United States.

Where is Donald Trump
being experienced
other than inside of you?

Is there any experience you have ever had
that has not been experienced
within that which you call you?

What about thoughts and feelings?

Where are they experienced?

Are they not arising within you?

Can it be honestly and legitimately said
that you are the seer? Are you the seen?

Are you the experiencer?
Are you the experience?

Or are you the non-local, unnameable,
Presence of Seeing or Experiencing
that witnesses both seer and seen,
experiencer and experience?

And is not suffering what is experienced
when attention is diverted
from the ocean of beingness--- eternally aware
of itself, eternally aware of experience,
into that of the contracted experience
of the experiencer which separates itself
and experience into subject and object
and relies on judgement, memory,
belief, right and wrong,
good and bad, pleasant and unpleasant,
like and dislike, and its own
rigid and righteous moral code
that it thinks the world perceived
separate from of itself should obey?

Don't take my word for it.

LOOK and see for yourself.

What are you?

Prayer for the Day

May the Consciousness
expressing Itself as all beings
and all things
awaken within all beings
and all things
to Itself.

Once seer and seen are witnessed,
you are no longer either

Both seer and seen are shrouded

Thus the miracle is the gift
