The Lojong teachings of Chekawa Yeshe Dorje are composed of 59 pithy sayings which, when understood and practiced, help us see our world with new eyes and train ourselves in loving-kindness and compassion.
Both the Bodhisharyavatara and the Lojong include the meditation practice of Tonglen which will be explained in detail in both classes.
In addition to daily lessons, the class meets once per month, on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
The word Bodhicharyavatara means The Way of the Bodhisattva.
The prayer of the Bodhisattva is thus:
And now as long as space endures
As long as there are beings to be found
May I continue likewise to remain
To drive away the sorrows of the world.
The Way of the Bodhisattva v. 10.55
In addition to daily lessons, the class meets once per month, on the second Tuesday of each month from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
The Bodhisattva path is the path of awakening the heart. And a Bodhisattva deeply believes that his enlightenment could never be complete unless everyone is free of suffering.
A Course of Love
From the back cover of A Course of Love:
"There is a way of knowing that can take you beyond where all your learning has taken you. It can take you to the truth of who you are.
Those yearning for the heart's knowing will find it here. A Course of Love draws the mind into communion with the heart. It facilitates the dawning of the consciousness of unity---a consciousness that cannot be learned, but only revealed through union and relationship.
A Course of Love is an intimate companion on your journey home."
This is a closed class which meets on either Wednesday morning or evening.
If you are currently in this class and elect not to participate in 2019, there will be no joining in 2020. The class is really a 5-6 year commitment because it actually takes that long to get through all three books contained within the Course. This does not mean that you have to commit to 5-6 years. But it does mean that if you drop out, you will not be allowed to return in subsequent years.
There are two classes with daily lessons for each.
The daytime class meets every Wednesday 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM.
The evening class meets once per month, on the third Wednesday of the month, 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
Class Offerings 2019
Transcending ego/suffering Through the Twelve Steps
I am most excited about this class and even more deLighted because I will be co-teaching with
The Big Book says:
So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making. They arise out of ourselves, and the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will run riot, though he usually doesn't think so."
What if, everyone on this planet is an addict?
And what if the true addiction was to a self that doesn't even exist except as a product of our imagination and our conditioning, a self born of our identification with thoughts and thinking?
And what if what we refer to as addictions, such as drugs, alcohol, sex, overeating, etc., were actually symptoms of a disease called selfing?
In this class we will go deeply into the ego's lair and explore the nature of suffering, addiction, freedom and relationship with a Higher Power.
We will be studying the Big Book together as well as a number of fine books written by those who are enlightened and in 12-step recovery.
The monthly class will be conducted like any 12-step meeting and all sharing, whether in the Cyber Sangha or in person will follow strict rules of anonymity.
In addition to daily lessons, the class meets once per month, on the fourth Friday of each month from 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
"Selfishness-self-centeredness! That, we think, is the root of our troubles. Driven by a hundred forms of fear, self-delusion, self-seeking, and self-pity, we step on the toes of our fellows and they retaliate. Sometimes they hurt us, seemingly without provocation, but we invariably find that at some time in the past we have made decisions based on self which later placed us in a position to be hurt.
Classes begin January 7, 2019
Please look carefully at January's schedule, as it is different because classes do not resume in 2019 until January 7th. You can find the calendar here. It shows the entire year, including our breaks from classes.
If you believe in what we are doing as a group, you can help support the Sanctuary by becoming a Foundation Partner and by giving directly to support our teacher.
