Class Information 2018

Mondays:   A Course In Miracles
A Course in Miracles is a complete spiritual thought system. It is a three-volume curriculum consisting of a Text, Workbook for Students, and Manual for Teachers, it teaches that the way to universal love and peace—or remembering God—is by undoing guilt through the practice of forgiveness and the cultivation of what is referred to as the holy relationship.

Tuesday:  Bodhicharyavatara
*This class is actually two classes in one.. We will alternate week by week between the study of the Bodhicharyavatara and the Lojong.
The Bodhicharyavatara, or The Way of the Bodhisattva, is the premier course of study for those dedicated to the path of love and service. It is a famous Mahayana text that was written c. 700 AD in Sanskrit verse byShantideva, in Indai. The goal of our study is that of entering into the state of Bodhichitta, or awakened heart. Of the state of Bodhichitta,
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche said:
"Awakened heart comes from being willing to face your state of mind. The sitting practice of meditation is a means to awaken this within you. When you awaken your heart, to your surprise, you find that it is empty. If you search for awakened heart, if you put your hand through your rib cage and feel for your heart, there is nothing there — except for tenderness. You feel sore and soft, and if you open your eyes to the world, you feel tremendous sadness. It is not the sadness of feeling sorry for yourself or feeling deprived. It is a natural situation of fullness. The genuine heart of sadness comes from this feeling that your nonexistent heart is full. Your experience is so raw, tender, and personal that even if a tiny mosquito lands on you, you feel its touch."

The Lojong teachings are very very important in this awakening as well. They represent a mind training practice in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition based on a set of aphorisms or slogans which were formulated in Tibet in the 12th century by Chekawa Yeshe Dorje. The practice involves refining and purifying one's motivations and attitudes., in other words, changing how we both feel and relate to ourselves and our world. When we come to understand the fullness of each slogan, it provides us with certain tools that allow us to experience our entire life differently and to walk this world in a state of peaceful and compassionate selfless availability.

Wednesdays:  A Course of Love
This book, like A Course In Miracles is a channeled or scribed work that could be fairly described as the next chapter in one's ever unfolding spiritual journey for those who are committed Course students. While A Course in Miracles worked at freeing the mind from the egoic thought system, this text is devoted to the attainment of the state of whole-heartedness, a state wherein the mind and heart are joined in unison, or the return of self to Self.
